| Behzad Shekastehband received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Civil Engineering in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and Ph.D. degree in Structural Engineering from Sahand University of Technology in 2011. He is a Professor of Structural Engineering at Urmia University of Technology and therefore serves as a supervisor on research projects of MSc and PhD students. His general area of research is the mechanics of steel structures and lightweight space structures, with a focus on structural stability and collapse behavior. With his students and collaborators, he is currently working on novel concepts for mitigating undesired collapse mechanisms in reticulated shell structures. He is the author or co-author of over forty peer-reviewed research articles published in the high status engineering journals and conferences. He has also successfully co-authored three peer-reviewed books about structural stability published by SUT press and authored one peer-reviewed book on Tensegrity Structures published by UUT press. He was a member of scientific committee of both 4th national conference on spatial structures and 12th national congress on Civil Engineering. He is frequently invited to judge the work of others in his field by high-status journals and conferences. He has also served as the director of the Office of Design and Construction since December 2014 till November 2015. During his career, he has also worked as a professional and dedicated civil engineer with over 5 years experience in analyzing, designing and directing the construction of space structures.
